The 9th Annual J.Y. Park Piano Competition

Important Dates:

The Competition:

Eligibility:Students living and/or studying in Connecticut, or the following three counties in New York- Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess.
Divisions:Junior Division: Ages 10 – 13, as of April 1, 2024
Senior Division: Ages 14 – 18, as of April 1, 2024
Junior Division Four Hand: The age of first student 11-13, as of April 1, 2024
The age of second student are 10 - 18 as of April 1, 2024
The first student must have participated Junior Solo Division in prior years and won an award including honorable mention.

Required Repertoire:

Junior Division Four Hand:

1) Compulsory work: Dolly Suite, Opus 56, Movements 1 & 2 by Gabriel Fauré

2) A Contrasting work for piano four hands

Note: student must alternate the position for the second piece.

Repertoire does NOT have to be performed from memory.

Students can be from different teacher.

All Students may compete in solo competition in proper solo division.

Junior Division Solo:

1) Compulsory work: Sonata in B-Flat Major, Opus 22, I. Allegro Con brio by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
2) A Baroque work
3) A 19th, 20th or 21st Century work
4) An American work (jazz compositions are acceptable).

All works must be for solo acoustic piano and all repertoire must be performed from memory. 

Entire application will be paperless.

Prize:

Junior Division Four Hands:

1st Prize:$ 250 each
2nd Prize:$ 200 each
3rd Prize:$ 150 each
Honorable Mention(2)$ 100 each

Junior Division Solo:

1st Prize:$ 350 each
2nd Prize:$ 250 each
3rd Prize:$ 200 each
Honorable Mention(2)$ 100 each

Senior Division Solo:

1st Prize:$ 1000 each
2nd Prize:$ 750 each
3rd Prize:$ 500 each
Honorable Mention(2)$ 250 each

These prizes are provisional and the jury reserves the right to award selected prizes.

 All decisions of the competition jury are final.

All prizes will be awarded at the winner’s recital on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm.

**Winning contestants must perform in the recital in order to receive their prize.  

Teacher's Awards:
Teachers of each of the three Senior Division winners: $300 each

Teachers of each of the three Junior winners: $200 each

Teachers of each Junior Four hands winners: $200 each

(if students are from two different teachers, both teachers will get $200)

Teachers of honorable mention winners: $100 each
**Teachers must be present to receive award and judges’ comments.

Note:  No audio recording will be allowed during the competition and winner's recital.

           Electronic devices are not permitted in the recital hall. Â
